WW1 Aviation
Though
an original member of the Aircraft Manufacturer's Association,
the predecessor to today's Aerospace Industries Association, and
the first company to produce all-metal fuselage planes for the US
Navy and Army, their contribution to early aviation is a long forgotten part of that
industry's history. Of local significance, Sturtevant was the first builder of aeroengines in
Massachusetts and the only large scale aircraft manufacturer in the Boston area.
Use the links below to view
this interesting chapter of Sturtevant as told through their two
Boston subsidiaries; Sturtevant Manufacturing Co. (1910 - 1915)
and the Sturtevant Aeroplane Co. (1915 - 1919).
