VC-6 Compound Vertical Steam Engine

Application
Used in generating sets and similar service.

Construction
A high-speed, fully enclosed, cross-compound type with cranks at 180 degrees. The expansion of steam in two cylinders so reduces the range of pressure and temperature in each that the metal remains at temperature more nearly that of the entering steam with the result that much less steam is condensed on the cylinder walls. Designed to comply with the rigid specs of the US Navy.
