There's an interesting story behind the blades. Davidson Fan(UK) constructed the first forwardly-curved fan in 1908. Sturtevant's answer to their patent protection was to develop blades with cup-shaped depressions around 1909. They claimed a 33% efficiency improvement, yet when the patent expired so did these unique blades. The reality was that the blades were structurally weaker and an additional layer of cost was added in hot-forming the blades. |
